Rivermead Islands is a family-owned, independent, and purpose-built student community. The community was built in Chelmsford’s former industrial quarter in the United Kingdom, with the vision of using the brand to restore it as a modern community for Chelmsford’s students while also keeping hold of the Islands’ industrial heritage.
To achieve this, there were many steps that we needed to take to develop the new brand. The goal was to create a new website for the brand and garner more visibility while also attracting students to book rooms in the newly developed community buildings.
What We Did
To develop a successful website, we decided to split this into two key phases. The first phase entailed creating pages of general information on the website, which would allow students to digest the content and begin booking their accommodation for September 2022.
Once that phase is complete, the second phase would be to focus on finishing the website before the start of the 2022-23 school year.

WordPress Development
Firstly, we developed a new website for the brand. We created the website using WordPress CMS, using designs provided to us by Rivermead Islands. Creating a site in WordPress also meant that Rivermead Islands could make quick and easy amends in the future.
We also used a WordPress theme and page builder to develop the website in a way that it could evolve as needed in the future. We built template pages that could be copied and used to create as many pages as required while also having the power to add new functionalities and sections without any additional code. This was essential for the Rivermead Islands team due to their limited in-house website skills.
WordPress utilizes a non-technical and user-friendly CMS framework, which makes it extremely easy to use and customize the content while also ensuring the entire site functions perfectly across all devices.
Specific Functionalities
On top of developing a fully functioning website, we also integrated an Instagram feed, web form, call to action, and FAQs. For young students inquiring about Rivermead Islands, Instagram integration is extremely important, as is an FAQ section. Often, this will be the student’s first time moving away from home, and therefore they will have a lot of questions.
We also included plugins that helped monitor the website’s security and performance, to compress the CSS/HTML/JS and images to optimize pages’ loading time, and used a server in Germany to ensure that 24/7 support was available if needed.
